Dr. T Labs designs and hand assembles analog guitar pedals in Seal Beach, California. The Diamondback Terrapin (DT+) is the first pedal launched out of the labs.
About seven years ago I picked up the guitar again after a long hiatus. I started discovering effects pedals and built a small collection. Eventually, I wanted to understand the inner workings, so naturally without any research or previous experience I purchased a soldering iron and a nonfunctional phaser from Reverb.
With a clear goal set before me, I dug into how to troubleshoot the problem, learned everything I could about phaser circuits and eventually repaired the pedal. I was able to resell the pedal and used the proceeds to purchase additional projects to repair. I continued this process over the past few years and have repaired a couple dozen pedals.
The DT+ is the culmination of the passion for circuit design and building that I developed as a hobbyist. The DT+ has two parallel circuits, an octave up fuzz and a distortion, with a mix control to blend the two. This allows anything from pure distortion effect, to subtile octave, to a full blown octave fuzz. This design uses premium components from the Gorva enclosure and soft click switches to the WIMA capacitors.
Every detail of the DT+ has been designed to inspire musicians to get lost in sonic glory as they play and write music.
